For students
What we can do for you:
- Help you get started with your assignment or project.
- Suggest some useful searches or websites for you to explore.
- We can only provide information and suggestions - we cannot provide you with THE answer.
How you can help us:
- Ask for help at your school or public library first.
- Please be polite - you are being helped by a real person, not a machine ... be nice to us!
- If you're from New Zealand, check out AnyQuestions.co.nz - a service especially for NZ kids in English and Te Reo.
- We may need to ask a few questions so we understand what information you need, so please be ready to answer a few quick questions at the start.
- It’s OK for class groups to ask questions, but its best if one person chats to the librarian and shares the answers with the class.
- Be patient as we are often busy.
- Share the answers with your friends.
Steps to success
- Don’t forget your school or public library, ask the staff for help.
- Check out the Useful homework help sites.
- Try these Search tips or some Useful search engines.
- Useful resources on the web - Our subject-based tag-cloud provides you with direct links to freely available internet resources to help you find answers to questions. Our del.icio.us/usefulresources/ are tagged and recommended by AskNow librarians and regularly added to: explore and enjoy!
- National libraries and most State/public libraries provide registered users with access to a range of electronic journals and databases. Consider joining these libraries to gain access to these rich resources.
- Try using Trove to search multiple Australian collections across 90 million items at once.
